A friend and I joined up with other artists at Deep Bay Cabin on Clear Lake. We were invited by the Artist in Residence staying there at the time – Brenna George – for an afternoon of painting along the lakeshore. I sat in a shady spot with my back to the water looking inland from the shore, where the deadfall and scrub bordering the shore was backlit by a sunny meadow. It was low tide and the beach stones were spectacular, their color and smoothness offsetting the vibrant hues and angles of shaded vegetation, a decaying nursery log and bleached drift wood. The pen and ink and basic watercolor wash was done on location, with final layers of paint completed in studio. 5x7" artwork.
