"The Chase", an 8x10" varied edition hand-pulled linocut print, depicts the antics of your typical cat compelled to go after anything that moves. The influence of my travels over the last few years to ancient towns and historic places in Europe can be seen in my design which includes the iron grillwork and tile found there. This artwork was created by block printing with a linocut onto paper. The paper was typically pretreated with acrylics, acrylic inks or fabric dyes - I did a few on plain white acid free paper as well. Block printing is an ancient printing technique where the artist carves a design into a solid block of material (such as wood, lino or styrofoam) much like a stamp. Once the design is complete, the block is inked with a roller and the block is then applied to paper, fabric or other surfaces.
