"Plantaton"

"Plantation" references the sustainable dividing, cultivating and nurturing of the land. An eco-friendly approach to planting design and landscaping-gardening, sustainable planting balances the need for resource conservation with agricultural needs. This sustainable cultivation considers both long and short-term economics to create agricultural environments designed to promote endless regeneration. The idea of sustainable planting dates back millennia, when ancient Greeks and Chinese practiced organic farming, the oldest method of farming. Sustainable planting may include beneficial introduction of certain non-native species to increase biodiversity especially in disturbed areas, where restoration with exotic/non-native plants may fare better than with the displaced, native inhabitants, It may also involve crop rotation.

This artwork was created by block printing with an inked linocut onto dampened paper and run through a press which also achieves an embossed effect. Block printing is an ancient printing technique where the artist carves a design into a solid block of material (such as wood, lino or styrofoam) much like a stamp. Once the design is complete, the block is inked with a roller and the block is then applied to paper, fabric or other surfaces. The carved areas will not show in the final product, while the raised portions left behind will print.

"Plantation" is 3.5" x 4" and matted to fit an 8" x 10" frame. Price is $50matted. Framing, taxes and shipping are extra.
