This zenwork accompanies my poem “Grandpa’s Key’s”: “If these keys could speak they would tell you which box or lock or heart or door they were meant to open, but they lost their voice and home a long time ago, and it’s a mystery to me as to where they once belonged. Grandpa says he found them many years ago, kept them on a ring, worrying them like rosary beads, figuring someday they’d set him free. He alone knew the secrets of these keys to memories out of place, out of time, out of luck, hanging on by a ring now in the hand of a younger guy who loves a long-time family mystery.”
My Zenworks express my love of pen and ink and a desire to meld symbolism with words and abstract imagery created through spontaneous strokes and repetitive patterns. Zenworks emerge via a tranquil, meditative process that frees me to explore and experiment with line, shape and colour.
